Liz Chibucos was born in the town of DeKalb, Illinois in 1985.  Liz’s parents always played music such as Paul Simon, James Taylor, The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, Don McLean and Carly Simon, and they took her to several concerts with Raffi and The Flyers.  She believes that the single largest musical influence in her life is the memory of dancing to all of this music in their living room when she was little.  Her mother took lessons on Lizthe piano, which sparked her interest in the instrument.  She began taking piano lessons soon after.

When Liz was still young her family moved to Bowling Green, Ohio, the flattest town in North America.  She would have forgotten what hills were, but her family was very good about taking her on vacations to places with more interesting topography.  She also started playing violin in grade school, and continued taking lessons in both violin and piano throughout high school.  She got her first guitar when she was 13, and soon she was teaching herself as much as she could on the instrument. Liz also gained an interest in jazz in high school, and played piano in her school’s jazz band and violin in a jazz string quartet.

In 2004 Liz graduated high school and headed off to Bowling Green State University to major in music composition.  However her first semester was not spent on campus.  Instead she went on “GeoJourney,” a nine-week camping trip and geology field study Lizaround the country.  It was on this trip that Liz was first exposed to bluegrass music.  Her worldview was drastically changed on that trip, and her love for bluegrass and folk music has not faded since that time.

Liz met Chad and Mark in the music program the following semester. They jammed with many other music students, and eventually, The Student Loan was formed.  Just recently, Liz just graduated with a degree in World Music and a minor in Recording Technology. She enjoys movies, teaching herself new musical instruments, coffee shops, people watching, cats, hiking, traveling, spending quality time with her family and friends, and sleeping in.
