The Quarry Breakdown and Campout
An all-day-all-night party!
If it’s been awhile since you’ve been to a music festival or gone camping we’d like to invite you to the Portage Quarry on April 26th for The Quarry Breakdown and Campout. We will be the headlining band with five other groups playing before us. If you’ve never been to the Portage Quarry it is a beautiful setting for a festival on the south side of Bowling Green. You are more than welcome to bring your own food and beverages (no glass please) and spend the day relaxing with other music lovers. If you want to camp the price at the gate will be $25, if you just want to stay for the music the price is $15. For details on the band line-up and other details of the event please check out the website listed under "links" below.

Liz, Julio and Mark all presented papers at this year's MIDSEM conference in Ypsilanti, Michigan. They were alongside 16 other students and professionals who were also presenting original research. Liz's paper is entitled "Grass Roots" Politics: Bluegrass and Newgrass Aesthetics as Expressions of Social and Political Activism. It discusses the differences and similarities between bluegrass and newgrass and some reasons why they may appeal to different people. Julio's paper, The Ox in the Concert Hall: Jazz Identity and La Création du monde, talks about jazz's influence on classical composer Darius Milhaud. Mark's paper is, 'I Love This Bar': Working Class Expression Through Karaoke Song Selection. Mark researched at Whiskey Dick's in Bowling Green and discusses how people identify with the karaoke songs they choose to sing. |

CD of the Month

Courier by Richard Shindell. Shindell is one of the best songwriters of the last decade, and this live album highlights some of my favorite songs. His songs are all about characters: a WWI message courier, a truck driver, an illegal immigrant, a Civil War drummer boy. Each song introduces you to a person and lets you see the world through their eyes. This one of my top ten favorite albums all time. He has a number of videos on YouTube if you are interested in checking out some of his stuff.
